The Feldenkrais Method® is a learning modality.

The two branches of Feldenkrais® are:

Functional Integration® and Awareness Through Movement®

Functional Integration is the hands on portion of the modality. The student wears comfortable clothing they find easy to move in. In a Functional Integration lesson the Feldenkrais practitioner teaches the student through touch. The teacher engages the student from a place of  listening and with a sense of revealing movement possibilities rather than directing an externally prescribed outcome. It is a place of curiosity and discovery as you become aware of options  and choices in what used to be habit patterns.

Awareness Through Movement® lessons (ATM’s) are verbally guided movement classes. Usually these classes are taught in a group but they can be conducted in private one to one sessions also. As with Functional Integration the focus of an ATM class is based on self-referral, in that the student is encouraged to self monitor and keep the focus inward rather than follow a external ideal that may not be beneficial or relevant to the individual.
